Please advice me. I’m so afraid of STDs and HIV that I am considering if I should even date anyone..

  6. So positive STD results will be notified to the government?

    • No, only HIV is notifiable but we can perform this anonymously (and therefore, not reportable) at our Robertson Walk clinic.

  7. How are the STD and HIV tests anonymous if we consult the doctor and staffs?

    • Anonymous HIV testing means that we do not require any name/identity card number etc. and that results are not notified to the Ministry of Health – if you were to do HIV screening in a non-anonymous clinic, a positive result would automatically be notified to the government. Our STD testing apart from HIV is not anonymous, i.e. needs to be under a registered account – however, all of your information and results are confidential and not notifiable through the clinic.

  10. Hi doc,
Is it possible that there is hiv and std in the body despite being tested negative?

  11. Charlie kzentos

    Hello Doc ,

Please help me , in Ethiopia on the date of 10th jan 2016 in the morning i had a small scratch on my finger which was bleeding for 1 minute not more and then stopped, same day evening i met a csw in the hotel and we went to my room she took off her clothes as well i took off my t-shirt and she set on my legs trying to tease me i found some wet on my pants and i am not sure is from her or is it my pre-cum as i was Real on , she gave me handjob 2 times while i was touching her vagina also with the same finger which i had scratch on early morning from outside but it was not bleeding , then i relized that that is the same finger so i stopped , i ejaculted on her boobs and ass and then she washed and we smoked and then she gave me a second time handjob and she was holding my penis from the middile only , I asked about her hiv status and she said she is clean and she said that she never had sex without condom , Anyway i did an HIV P24 Ag/Abs Combo test on the date of 13th March 2016 means after 9 weeks and result was non reactive, (stupied me again )on 4th Nov 2016 i met a girl which we have been friends since almost 2 years and she gave me handjob two times and we cuddled on bed with some kisses but without Saliva exchange and i did my last HIV P24 Ag/Abs Combo test on date of 17th April 2017 means about almost 24 weeks from the last expousre & 15 months from the first expousre i mentioned above and got the result after 2 hours as of Non-Reactive again,

-I never felt fever or rash or got the flue since 2 years back or so .

Do you think my tests are conclusive ?

I believe that as per your site announced of the HSA RECALL that the ag component might only affected and the test after 3 months is not affected?

    Please help help,

  12. Hello,

I need to ask a short direct question Doc ,

Two cases in massage center for Happy ending only , no insertive at all ,

1st case I did Hiv p24 Ag Abs Combo test after 9 weeks and result Non Reactive ,

2nd case I did Hiv p24 Ag Abs Combo test after 23 weeks and after 15 Months from the above first case , result Non Reactive
    again ,

Two CONCERNS below hope to answer me ,

Do you think the two tests are conclusive ?

I heard an opinion to u in previous cases and you said no need to repeat a test if you performed any HIV TEST after 3 months , is it correct as the HSA RECALL might affected my above two tests ?

Please consider the timing above and advice Doc ,

  13. Hi Doc,
Does the clinic only offers the various std screening packages and prices as shown?

  14. HI doc,

How long do I have to wait to test for each respective STD?

    • You may come in to speak to one of our doctors for more details. You can come at 2 weeks for most urinary infections such as chlamydia or gonorrhea, and 1 month for HIV.

  15. Hi doc,
Is it possible that there is hiv and std in the body despite being tested negative? Will they be undetectable?

Every infection has a window period for detection. So after that window, it can’t be detected?

Can you explain more? how long do I have to wait before going to be tested for each diseases and virus?

    • The window period is the time where the infection may not be detected. So after the window period is the time you should be testing. As each infection may have slightly different window periods, the best thing to do would be to visit us for a proper medical consult on your situation. We cannot answer every question in such detail online.

  16. Hi doc,
Is it possible that there is hiv and std in the body despite being tested negative? Will they be undetectable?

  17. Just asking

So me and my boyfriend got treated for chlamydia with pills & a shot 45 minutes later after consuming the pills I threw up. I was wondering did they absorb? they were red & there was nothing that color in my vomit also, I had protected oral and vaginal sex with a condom after he put it in me I wiped the condom of with peroxide and water and gave him oral? is it possible I reinfected myself? lastly, my lymph nodes in my groin area became swollen after exposure. After treatment thry remained swollen my last question was am I still infected if they do not go down or do they sometimes take time to go back to normal?

  18. We were lying down on your side facing each other and he was fingering me. His penis was facing me, it didn’t touch me but his precum fell onto my inner thigh. Is there an std risk?

  19. A guy spat his saliva directly on my vagina and fingered me. Afterwards my vagina felt sore from the fingering (not sure if there are skin tears). What are the chances of std.

  20. Doc,
A lady with a cold sore near her lips kissed my neck and cheeks. I have no tears on the skin of my cheeks and neck Is there any chance I’ll get HPV, herpes or any virus, disease on my neck, cheek? May I know how are they transmitted?
    Thanks

  21. Hi Doc,

A lady with a cold sore near her lips kissed my neck and cheeks. Is there any chance I’ll get HPV, herpes or any virus, disease on my neck, cheek? Thanks

  22. Theafraid

Doctor needed!! I recently fingered a girl..there were some fresh scratches on my fingers. My fingers, with the cuts came into contact with her vaginal fluids, while my lips came into brief contact with her vaginal fluids..Will my fingers, lips and body be at risk of having STDs, HIV, HPV, Herpes and other diseases? I have been feeling tired, feeling feverish sores, abdominal pain and genital area has small amount of clear fluid at times and I have been feeling some sore in my eyes. sorry but may I ask why is there zero risk? As the vaginal fluids has brief contact with my lips and contact with the fresh open cuts on my fingers…. Please reply!!

  23. theparanoid

    Hi Dr,

I had unprotected oral sex with a KTV girl last Friday, and proceed to have a few protected thrusts before ejaculating in the condom, outside of the vagina. I gathered from all the readings, I am at risks with some STDs and very low risk for HIV. (Correct me if I’m wrong)

My question is, for a peace of mind, I intend to have some tests at your clinic, can you advise which are the essential tests required and window period to have them?

    Thank you.

    • Yes, there are risks for some STDs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and other urinary pathogens (these can be checked 2 weeks post-exposure) and lower risk for other STDs such as syphilis, HIV, etc. Blood tests can be checked at 1 month for HIV and for indicative results on syphilis, herpes, etc. but conclusive only at 3 months. Please visit us for a proper consult and evaluation and we can inform you further.

      • theparanoid

        Thanks Dr,

Do you think if it is okay that I do all test at one go at 4 weeks post exposure if I do not have any symptoms, will it be too late for the common STDs?

For the HIV test, do I go for the 4th gen one and is it conclusive at 4 weeks post exposure?

Anyway, from your initial assessment, how high risks is this for the unfortunate encounter?

        • It is fine to do all the tests at 4 weeks, it would not be too late. Yes, you’ll be advised to do the 4th gen HIV test and it is conclusive at 4 weeks post-exposure. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are pretty common from unprotected oral sex from commercial sex workers.

  24. Hi doctor,

I would like to seek your advise. I had an encounter at the massage parlour. The massage person (a guy) touched me intimately. We never had oral or sex throughout the process.

On the 21th days, I had a full std and hiv check in a doctor office. During the check he saw a blister on the shaft of my penis. There was no pain.

The test result came back and reported that I do not have hiv but was positive on Herpes 1. The doctor told me it was Genital herpes type 1. I was confused it is possible to get this without having oral and sex?

The Herpes 1 result is HSV type 1 IgG ab- 1.1.
Currently I am under anti viral and cream medication for 10days.

May I asked, do you think the herpes is conclusive? Or do you recommend for further testing? Any chance this could be a false positive? I am thinking of doing another test now but it is useful as I am now taking the anti viral drug?

Thank you doctor for your time.

    • Type 1 HSV is extremely common, and if he just did a blood test, it is probably more likely you had exposure to this virus when you were younger but did not have any outbreaks. I would say it is highly unlikely without oral or penetrative intercourse to have picked up HSV-1 on the genitals. Please visit us for a proper consult and evaluation if you have any further concerns.

  25. I have been feeling tired, abdominal pain and genital area has small amount of clear fluid at times and I have been feeling some sore in my eyes. Or am I just overthinking.. Please reply!!

    • You have close to zero risk for any STDs in this manner. If you have concerns, please visit us for a proper consult and evaluation.

      • Doctor, sorry but may I ask why is there zero risk? As the vaginal fluids has brief contact with my lips and the fresh open cuts on my fingers..

  26. Hi Dr,

I just had anal sex and i found his dick became soft so i pulled it out and notice he came in the condom. Should i be worried about the risk? I was on top of him and was still penetrating till he got soft.

  27. Dear Doctor

I was given unprotected mouth-to-penis oral sex by a massage lady yesterday. I am now very concerned about the risks that I am exposed to.

Can you advice me what are the STD tests I should be getting and when I should get tested.

    Thank you.

  28. Hi dr Jon I did blow job for about 5 mins and because if the precum I was gross out and immediately went to spit and wash my mouth after that I did protected anal is the chance of getting HIV high?

    • There is a low risk of transmission through the anal intercourse (condoms are not 100% protective), but there is no significant risk from the oral sex.

  29. Hello doctor.

I had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman about 9 weeks ago near Kuala Lumpur. She was not a prostitute. I went to a hospital 12 days after exposure and received a negative test. I went again at 47 days and my results were HIV negative. I plan to go at 12 weeks. Should I still be worried? Also, Malaysian doctors seem to think that 6 month tests are conclusive. Should I go again at that time as well? What about hepatitis? I don’t have any symptoms but I still want to make sure I’m ok.

    Thanks

  30. Hi doc, i had protected sex with a csw at a legal brothel. Condom was fitted well by csw. No condom break nor slip. Lubricant was used did not have much friction and no minor tear nor rip to the penis. Did not do oral sex nor kissing on csw. But i am still worried if i would contract HIV or STD and was thinking of getting it checked. I did rub her vagina with my hands though. Overall what are my risks of contracting STI and what would be the best time to do a full STD screening? Thanks.

    • Your exposure risk is likely very low. If you are still concerned, please visit our clinics for testing at the appropriate time. We can have conclusive HIV and urine test results 28 days or more post-exposure, while some other infections such as syphilis, hepatitis B/C or herpes serology may take up to 3 months to be detected.

      • Did you mean go down after 28 days or within 28 days for the conclusive test? I guess then it will be good for me to take another test in 3 months time?

        • You can test for HIV after 28 days for conclusive results with a 4th gen combo test. For the other infections I mentioned, you can do a check at 3 months for conclusive results.

          • Also to add i have bad phimosis. Dont think ny foreskin rolled at all during the short intercourse. What are my risks?

  31. Hi Dr,

I was exposed to unprotected sex on 24 Sep. I started to feel itch and slight discomfort when peeing in early Oct and I went to see a doc on 11 oct. I did a comprehensive testing for HIV and STD. In the meanwhile, I was prescribed with Doxymycin, pending my test results. The condition did not get better as I experienced pain when peeing and my pee hole looks inflammed (swollen).

I got my test results back yesterday and it was tested negative for STDs (urine culture was attempted twice and tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhoea). However, white blood cell count is high (106), there are detection of blood (9/uL) and pus cells +++. There was no detection of yeast cells, Trichomonas vagginalis or gram negative intracellular diplococci or clue cells seen.

Nonetheless, the doctor prescribed 3 different type of antibiotics. Azithromycin (1 dose), Nizole (1 dose) and Cycin (5 day course) for me to take. I have taken the single dose antibiotics and is onto the 2nd day of the Cycin. I am not feeling any better and it still hurts when I pee.

My question is usually how long will the symptoms ease off assuming I have STD. Should I complete the course of antibiotics first or seek alternate medical advise? I don’t feel any improvement at all despite consuming the antibiotics.

Thank you very much for your advice.

  32. Hello Dr, ı was 43 days massage room handjjob.
I have 43.daya hiv vidas duo ultra negatif.
    So again test 90.day ?
    Thanks

    • You cannott get HIV from a handjob. But regarding just the test itself, yes it is conclusive and you would not need to repeat.

  33. WorriedLeo

    Doc.

I’m a health care worker with daily exposure of bloods & body fluids.
I did a sutures take off by “High risk of HIV” person. While removing the sutures,I felt something goes in my eyes. I’m not sure if it is body fluid or it is just my eyes got itch and so i just washed my eyes with water after that. (Not to be anxious) And how could the body fluid goes in my eyes if it is not near distance.

It stated on the doctor comment as “STD infected” only. But patient may be high risk of having HIV as the person working environment. After i googled HIV may shows no symptoms at all. This scares hell of me. Its been 3-4 months now. I’m all well but at times i get worried. The time frame to get the symptoms of HIV may take ages. What should i do? Pls help.

  34. Hi doc.Im suffering from vaginal discharge for 2 years.I had tests for HiV and Stds but negative.Blood sugar is normal.Had 2 pap tests in 10months and diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis.I was prescribed with neopenotran forte and flagyl for my husband. We didnt have contact 1 week before treatment and a month after. Then it cleared up so I had contact with my husband again and few days after i have this odorless clumpy itchy discharge.I suspect its yeast infection. But how come it never really cleared up after our treatment?Im sure we both have monogamous relationship. What test should I do?Thanks

  35. Johnson

    Doc,

I had mutual masterbation with a stripper…I believe she got wet I did not ejaculate although I might have had 2-3 small fingernail bitting cuts.

Any chance of HIV or Std’s from these activities? Have you ever seen cases without oral, anal, vaginal sex?

    • No risk of HIV. You can theoretically get herpes, syphilis, or genital warts from skin-to-skin contact with an infected area.

  36. Watterys

    Doc ,

Do you think that a handjob is low risky even if the csw lady touched her pussy then played with my penis , i didn’t have entercourse at all but i did that two times on date 11th jan 2016 and i did the HIV AG/ABS COMBO after 63 days and it was non Reactive,

Again a second case but was witg non csw lady and she is far friend only touching and handjob and i ejaculated on her body and i also played her vagina on date 5 November 2016

I heard its only conclusive after 6 months for final testing so i did a second test on 17th April 2017 Hiv ag/abs Combo and again Non Reactive , since that and i have lympho but not moving since a year and not increasing and white yellow layer at the end of my tounge , i dont know how to move on with all the fear i have now , my young child started to get her wbc reduced so i think i did something to my wife as she was breastfeeding last year am so afraid doc ,

  37. Hi doc, I had an exposure of protected oral. The next day my penis started to feel pain & itch. Today is the 7th day & the condition is still the same. What are the possible infections that I can get from protected oral? Thanks.

    • Protected is pretty low risk assuming the condom is used properly. But you can still pick up chlamydia/gonorrhea/NSU organisms such as ureaplasma/mycoplasma if the condom was not properly applied/removed. Otherwise you can sometimes get irritant balanitis from the condom itself. Please visit us for a proper evaluation and treatment.

  38. Hi Dr Tan, i have some queries on mind and appreciate if you can assist to answer them.

    1. I was diagnosed with chlamydia. I was given and taken the antibiotics on 10 Aug 2017. Understand i will need to go back 2 weeks later for the urine culture. May i know if i should go back on the 23 or 24 Aug for an accurate result?

    2. If i have performed a cunnilingus on the opposite partner, would i need to go through a throat swab for chlamydia or will the antibiotics that i have taken earlier helped?

    3. Since i have been diagnosed with chlamydia, would there be a test to determine an estimation when a person has contracted it?

    4. If the date of contraction is undetermined, is there a possibility that the person may have suffered a long term effects, e.g. worst case scenario like low sperm count, without any symptoms? What would be the recommendation?

    Thanks.

    • 1. There should not be much difference with doing a test of cure on 23 or 24 Aug.
      2. The antibiotics would treat both oral and urinary chlamydia the same.
      3. There is no test to determine when you may have contracted the infection.
      4. There is a small risk of complications like fertility issues, but the only way to know would be to check with a semen analysis

      • Hi Dr, thanks for the clarifications.

Since i am positive for chlamydia. Does my partner needs to carry a test to verify? Can the oral tablets be given and a check up be done 2 weeks later?

  39. Morning Doc Tan ,

Please help me as i am freaking out , i met a girl on the date of 3rd Nov 2016 and she is Not a csw and we had some cuddles and ahe gave me a handjob two times and ejaculation in the second time was on her booty from outside without intercourse , since that time i had lympho in my neack without increasing , I did one test HIV P24 Ag&Abs Combo on date of 18th April 2017 it means almost 165 days from the expousre and result came out after 2 hours Non-Reactive ,

Do u think i should re-test now which willbe after 9 months from the expousre,?

I am sorry but i need ur advise ?

  40. I’m losing sex power because I did masterbation every day . Should I see dr tan and partner ?

  41. Cilopay

    Hello Doc ,

Thank you for all the efforts you are doing to give the informations sbout the HSA RECALL , my case was a low risky as of a handjob and oral sex from the csw lady and i did the fingering and ejaculation on her breasts only without intercourse .

I understood from your comments that if i did my last Test of the HIV P24 Ag/Abs Combo after 160 days with a result of Non Reactive then that is a conclusive result and is not affected by the HSA RECALL ,

Can you confirm about the above or i should restest ?

How can i know if the tests HIV P24 Ag/Abs combo which was two times came out Non Reactive in two different cases ( 63 days after first expousre ) & ( 160 days after second expousre ) it was Alere Combo or SD Bioline .

It was mentioned only HIV P24 Ag& Abs Combo test so ?

  42. Salimy

    Hello,

-I did my HIV P24 Ag/Abs Combo test after 9 weeks of low risky exposure of handjob and blowjob , No intercourse at all on date 13th march 2016 , is it means it in not conclusive and should retest again based on the HSA Reacall ?

    Hi Doc,

I had an exposure on the night of 2nd June – received unprotected oral. Fingered the girl for just a bit but no direct contact genital contact. On the evening of 3rd June I developed sore throat which lasted until the morning of 6th of June and have recovered. – phlegm when coughing. Developed intermittent mild fever since 4th of June. Runny nose from 3rd of June (But I get runny nose very often) but rapid sneezing and feeling cold (Might be due to the fever) from 5th of June but recovered on the 6th of June. I can feel all the symptoms seem to have subsided except for the intermittent fever which is really bothering.

I actually went for a blood test for HIV, syphillis and Heptatis B earlier this morning. Results will be out later in the week. I know that testing at such an early stage is not conclusive at all and plan to go down for a fuller test.

How long do I wait before I go for a fuller test and what tests would you recommend me to do? In the meantime what can I do? Understand that the PEP is only effective for exposure less than 72 hours ago but is there anything I can do to reduce the risk of any infection? (not just HIV)

Thanks and I look forward to hearing a reply

    • First of all, your exposure is extremely low risk for HIV transmission (essentially zero). But should you wish to check HIV, the earliest conclusive results you can get will be with a 4th generation combo test (p24 antigen + HIV antibody) which can be done at 4 weeks post-exposure. Syphilis and hepatitis would also be very low risk and can be tested between 6-12 weeks post-exposure. More common STDs which you would be at risk at with unprotected oral would be chlamydia, gonorrhea, and NGU. These can be tested quite accurately 1-2 weeks post-exposure.
